Winter Sonata's Home Ground, Yongpyong Resort
As the oldest ski resort, Yongpyong Resort with its yearly average temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius maintains a long ski season with a lot of natural snow. Moreover, it is getting numerous compliments from skiers about its convenient facilities as a superior ski resort.
The Rainbow Course extends from the peak to the base, which is about 5 km. As the longest course, it is available to skiers of all levels. The level of difficulty varies among each course but Yongpyong makes it easy to switch from course to course while skiing down. A 3,742m long Gondola carrying 8 people is operated from the Ski House to the 1,438m peak, which is the Rainbow Course. On clear days, the East Sea and the whole Mt. Odaesan come into view from here. The scenery is truly the pride of Yongpyong and it deeply impresses its visitors.

Snowboarder's Heaven: Phoenix Park
Phoenix Park is a vacation resort, surrounded by nature 700m above sea level. Less than two hours away from Seoul, it is a perfect mountain area resort, containing everything from hotels, condomiums, ski resorts, and golf course. Phoenix Park, which was designated as an official Tourist Site in 1999, is open all year round, but it is especially crowded in winter during the ski season. The runs are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced level so that people can ski by their corresponding level. The ski range makes maximum use of the surrounding mountains, therefore from any one of the twelve courses, you can clearly see the 500 meter-wide ski base at the bottom of the slope. The ski range also has a mogul run, 8-person gondola, a 500 meter ski base which is the largest in Asia, cliff-style ski slopes, and the best quality facilities, which all adds to its popularity. Even the facilities are of international level. Many varieties of slopes, highest quality rental service, large cafeteria that can seat 1,000 persons, meeting rooms, children’s play room, and many more are offered for your comfort.

Niseko
Niseko is currently booming, largely as a result of investment from Australia. Together with its main rival Furano in central Hokkaido, the village of Niseko offers some of the best fresh powder skiing in Hokkaido. Niseko has excellent depth, though the powder at Furano tends to be drier. Niseko is a genuinely world-class ski resort, offering challenging runs equal to anything found in Europe or North America.
There are 3 major sections to the resort: Hirafu, Annapuri and Higashiyama, with another section nearby at Hanazono (about 3 kilometers from central Hirafu). Hirafu is the most popular area, with a large ski lodge zone, hotels, many bars and restaurants, and unlike Hanazono, easy access to the warmer and sunnier side of the mountain. Hirafu has spectacular views across the Niseko valley to Mt. Yotei and superb conditions. Hanazono doesn't have the views and the cold winds from Siberia can make the surface icy between snowfalls, but lift lines are usually shorter and the gelande less crowded. Annapuri and Higashiyama also have excellent views, but can be crowded during peak periods. |

Rusutsu
The Rusutsu ski resort is one of the most spectacular resorts in the whole of Hokkaido Japan, the views and scenery in Rusutsu are spectacular. It is located 90 minutes by road from Sapporo's International Airport and one hour from Niseko. The lift network is spread over 3 peaks; East mountain, West mountain and Mt Isola. Mt Isola offers the best terrain with long and challenging runs combined with some amazing inbound gullies with the best tree skiing accessed straight from the lifts. State of the art' mountain facilities including express chairlifts and Gondolas mean it's rare to see much of a line even on the weekends. There is plenty to do apart from world class skiing including - dogsledding, snowmobiling, snowrafting, tubing and an indoor wave pool. |

Furano
Furano is the centre of Hokkaido and it is this location that ensures amazingly light snow, great weather conditions, beautiful scenery and perfect farming conditions as well as some wonderfully unique festivals.
Furano Ski Area is the most famous ski area in the Central Hokkaido area. Furano has hosted 10 Ski World Cups as well as a Snowboard World Cup. Furano ranks amongst one of Hokkaido's most popular and renowned ski areas. It has 12 lifts including a 3km 6 person gondola and a 2.4km cable car which is the fastest lift in Japan, carry 101 skiers up the hill in 5 minutes at 10m/ second.
With 22 courses, long groomers for guests to cruise on, some steep courses with no grooming and a wide variety of courses to suit all levels from beginners to low advanced riders. |
